Over the last two conferences, the Scottish Conference in Optical Technologies (SCOT) has brought together over 200 students, early career researchers, and professionals from across the optics disciplines to exchange knowledge and foster collaboration

At the heart of SCOT is a desire to bridge the gap between industry and academia. Our sponsors gain direct access to two cohorts of highly skilled, rigorously trained students — undergraduate and PhD — from renowned universities across Scotland.

SCOT is delivered in close partnership and collaboration with Technology Scotland, connecting Scotland's photonics industry with its emerging talent — and we hope you will join them in sponsoring our 2027 conference.

Day 1: Academic Focused

Keynote talks and PhD oral presentation sessions showcasing cutting-edge research from across optics and photonics — where industry members network with prospective employees

Day 2: Industry Spotlight

Industry speakers, workshops, and panel sessions, alongside networking events with delegates from across the sector, concluding with a drinks reception and conference dinner where the Best PhD Talk Award is presented.

Day 3: Careers Fair & Undergraduate Day

The final day opens with a careers fair and poster session connecting sponsors with both cohorts, with Best Poster awards presented before lunch, followed by final-year students presenting their projects and attending talks, and concluding with panel sessions and workshops delivered by PhD students and early career industry employees.
